New unit of Satsuki and Tomo Asaha to perform in Norcal [Sunday
April 3rd, 2011 @ 2:11pm]

I didn't see this posted here, so I thought I'd share the press release:

Sacramento, CA - Kintoki-Con 2011 is proud to announce the debut musical performance of Moon Stream, the new musical unit of Satsuki (ex RENTRER EN SOI) and Tomo Asaha (echostream). Kintoki-Con is from June 18-19, 2011.

As the newest addition to Northern California conventions, Kintoki-Con is kicking off its first year with not only a performance by popular Japanese rock musicians, but exclusive industry-geared panels for attendees in addition to special events and autograph sessions with the band.

As ex-vocalist of popular visual kei rock band RENTRER EN SOI, Satsuki launched his solo career on Feb. 14, 2009 in order to pierce his own musical aesthetics. Satsuki has performed in America for piano concerts and anime conventions such as Anime Expo 2009, Anime Vegas 2009, and Oni-Con 2009. In addition to regularly headlining visual kei concert events in Japan, Satsuki has also performed in theater and is steadily expanding his range of activities. Since Sep. 1, Satsuki's musical themes have encompassed a fantastic world of white, an angelic clarity, and an ethereal feeling, as can be heard on his first mini-album release UPPER REGION.

Tomo Asaha began his musical career at the top of the visual kei music scene in Osaka, Japan, playing guitar for bands such as Voyage and NIL. After joining Unknown Frequency, an electronic rock band signed to GIZA Music, Tomo also began playing with artists such as Rina Aiuchi and Chocolate syrup. Unknown Frequency soon became what is now echostream, Tomo's current band based in New York. Tomo brought his vision to the United States with echostream, performing on tours and at conventions nationwide, and also as a New York underground musical force. Tomo has also performed on the Bonnie Hunt Show with Shahidah Omar. Echostream's album releases include Identity and The Duality of Courage, whose songs have been featured on the FX show Dirt.

For more information, please visit the Kintoki-Con website at http://kintoki-con.com or follow us on Twitter at @KintokiCon.

I know Sac isn't technically the Bay Area, but it's not that far out :)

Article about Juno Reactor w Sugizo in a local paper [Wednesday
September 24th, 2008 @ 11:18am]

It's here. Leave lots of comments on the actual article, it makes the editors happy and makes them want to publish more articles about JRock artists (which is actually the only reason we covered this show).

The interview with Sugizo should be up on Monday if I can get it transcribed by then.

Feel free to repost anywhere you like.

2 tickets avaliable for first Miyavi show in San Francisco 5/18 [Tuesday
May 13th, 2008 @ 7:13pm]

Hi guys. Turns out I have 2 extra tickets for the first show in San Francisco and everyone I know who's going already has theirs. Anyone want to buy one or both? I'll charge you what I paid, $26, so you're getting a deal on not having to pay processing fees (Ticketmaster is evil). You could either pay me via Paypal or in cash on the day, whichever works best. I think this show is sold out so hopefully someone will want these. Thanks, and see everyone there!

Looking for Vocalist & Drummer [Sunday
May 11th, 2008 @ 8:13pm]

Seeking Jrock Vocalist & Drummer!

akai SKY, a San Francisco-based American Japanese Rock (Jrock) band, seek a new male or female vocalist and drummer to complete their current line-up (guitar and bass). The band has been gigging regularly since 2005 at Japanese cultural events and local clubs and have gigs lined up throughout the rest of 2008.

This is a great opportunity for someone who's looking to join the American Jrock scene with an established band! The band members have a great love for writing music, performing gigs all across the country and having lots of fun doing what they love.

To hear some samples of the band's music or to learn more about its members, please visit http://www.myspace.com/akaisky. Please keep in mind that YOU ultimately have a big influence on the band's new sound and the music will evolve and change with your input.

  • Passionate about Jrock music

  • Committed to practice regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area (at least once during the weekend)

  • Able to take time off work/school to occasionally to travel to gigs

  • Vocalist must be comfortable singing in the Japanese language

  • Drummer must have own drum set

  • Age, ethnicity, Japanese language proficiency and skill level are NOT important. What is important is your dedication and motivation to succeed.

If you are interested, please contact the band at:
    Email: info @akaisky. com
    MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/akaisky
    Website: http://www.akaisky.com

    FanimeCon Promotion Videos! [Tuesday
    April 15th, 2008 @ 8:43pm]

    [ mood | busy ]

Hey everyone! As you all probably know, AnCafe will be performing at FanimeCon in San Jose next month. In addition to this being their first time performing in the US, this will also be Fanime's very first time offering JRock & JPop Video Programming!

As the one in charge of running the JRock/JPop Video Programming, I was asked to create some promotional videos for the events and, enlisting the aid of 24cylinders and her mad video editing skills, I present them to you now as a taste of things to come. It being the first time that the convention is offering such video programming, we're all very excited and hope that those attending the convention will be, too. And that maybe it might persuade some fence-sitters to hop on over and check it out!

    Promo ClipsCollapse )

FanimeCon takes place May 23-26 in San Jose, CA.
JRock/JPop Video Programming will be held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from Midnight until Noon - perfect for the night owl, the insomniac, AND the early bird! Exact location to be announced.

    Concept by: dazzlingdespair
    Video editing by: 24cylinders
    Requested and approved by: FanimeCon
Original videos property of the artists featured and their management

Cross-posted like crazy (sorry if you see this multiple times).
